The tūī, with its distinctive melodic calls and iridescent plumage, holds profound significance in Māori culture. Esteemed as a taonga (treasure), the tūī embodies life and vitality. Its remarkable vocal abilities, attributed to possessing two voice boxes, enable it to produce a diverse range of sounds, symbolizing communication and adaptability.  Historically, Māori revered the tūī as a messenger bridging the physical and spiritual realms, believed to convey messages between ancestors and the living.  

Every step in the process of making the linocut, from drawing and designing, to carving and printing, is done by hand, and as such, every linocut is completely unique and may vary slightly in colour, ink evenness and other small variations.

Tūī has been drawn and carved into linoleum and hand printed by me using water based ink onto acid free paper. Open edition.
